Police found a 40-year-old wanted man in Norfolk after a fatal shooting Wednesday, according to Chesapeake police.

Officials said he was found near the intersection of Chesapeake Boulevard and Johnstons Road in Norfolk before he was taken into police custody.

Officers responded to a call about an injured person shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Chesapeake Avenue in Chesapeake. When police arrived they found 37-year-old Sammi Jo Burkhart suffering from a gunshot wound, the release said.

Burkhart was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

On Thursday, police said O’Leary was wanted on charges of first-degree murder, armed burglary, abduction and multiple gun charges.
