Betty Ann Harford Fitzpatrick OBITUARY
Betty Ann Harford Fitzpatrick, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on August 1, 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mark Henry and Ada Shalhoup Harford.
Betty Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Edward L. Fitzpatrick Jr., in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Harford Christiansen and Evelyn Louise Ellis, and her brothers, Mark Henry Harford Jr. and Samuel Harford, IV.
She is survived by her two children, Timothy Mark Fitzpatrick and his wife Maureen, and Blair Ann Simpson and her husband, Frederick. Betty was an exceptional and loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Katherine Ryan Goldburg, and her husband Steven, John Tyler Simpson, and his wife Vidda, and Jake Emerson Fitzpatrick. Her great granddaughters, Elizabeth Drew and Caroline Pierce Goldburg brought her immense joy. Betty is also survived by her sister Adel Harford Williams, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A proud graduate of Maury High, Betty Ann dedicated 51 years of her professional life to Wilcox Savage, where she earned the affectionate title of “Boss” among her colleagues. She was a founding member of the Margaret Roper Moss King’s Daughters circle and remained actively involved in her community.
Known affectionately as “Ma,” Betty Ann treasured her family above all else, with her love for them rivaled only by her enthusiasm for Washington Redskins football and Duke basketball games.
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital and Westminster Canterbury at Home, especially the team of nurses and caregivers who provided exceptional support over her final months with special thanks to Linda Wiggins, who was a devoted companion to Betty Ann for many years.
A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. Online condolences may be offered at www.hdoliver.com.
