Davion Warren scores 32, hits free throws to cap Hampton men’s comeback triumph vs. UNC Asheville

A victory by the Old Dominion women's tennis team at Iowa State highlighted Saturday's swath of action off the basketball court.

Davion Warren made two free throws with one second left Saturday as Hampton University came back to beat UNC Asheville 73-71 to start a Big South series at the HU Convocation Center.

Warren had a career-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Pirates, who snapped a three-game losing streak. The teams play again at 1 p.m. Sunday at the HU Convocation Center.

Marquis Godwin scored a career-high 20 points for HU (5-7, 4-3 Big South), which trailed 55-42 with 16 minutes remaining. His fellow Old Dominion transfer Dajour Dickens added eight points and seven blocks.

“They showed what they can do with a solid second half,” HU coach Buck Joyner said. “Very proud of the effort tonight and will need another round of that tomorrow.”

Tajion Jones had 17 points for the Bulldogs (4-6, 3-2). LJ Thorpe added 15 points and five assists, and Evan Clayborne had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Jamon Battle tied the game for UNCA at 71 with 1:58 to play. He finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

UNC Asheville (4-5, 3-1) at Hampton (4-7, 3-3) in the first of a two-game Big South set. The Pirates had lost three in a row.
