Residents of Hampton Roads were welcomed with a breezy morning Wednesday, and for some, it marked the coldest August morning in quite some time.
According to meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Wakefield, it dropped to 61 degrees in Norfolk. This is the chilliest August morning in more than a decade — temperatures have not been that low in August since 2013. The weather service credited the comfortable temperatures to drier and less humid weather in the region.
On the Eastern Shore and in other parts of Hampton Roads, temperatures dropped into the 50s. The weather service reported Wednesday morning that Wallops Island had a low of 54 degrees, the lowest since 2000. Virginia Beach had a reported low of 58 degrees, and it dropped to 57 in Suffolk. Newport News and Williamsburg got down to 55 degrees.
According to reporting partners at WTKR News 3, chillier weather will be around through Thursday. Highs this weekend will be in the low- to mid-80s, and it will get even warmer as the upcoming work-week comes around again. Highs near 90 degrees will return by next Wednesday.
