The presidents of Christopher Newport University and Tidewater Community College signed an agreement Tuesday that will make it easier for community college students to transfer to CNU for a four-year degree.
The partnership guarantees TCC students’ admission to CNU once they have earned at least 16 credits with at least a 2.5 grade-point average. It will also facilitate a CNU grant program for TCC transfer students who have demonstrated financial need, conditional on available funding.
Other perks of the program include waived application fees when students are ready to apply or reapply to CNU, increased advising services to support preparation and transition, early access to events and support services and early access to CNU’s on-campus events. The program also provides resources such as transfer visits and tours as well as writing, career, financial literacy and student success workshops.
The partnership, known as the CNU Ready program, was launched during a ceremony at Christopher Newport Hall.
In a news release, CNU President William Kelly said the agreement “embodies our shared commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for the students of Hampton Roads.”
CNU entered a similar agreement this year with Virginia Peninsula Community College.
TCC is the second largest community college in Virginia, with nearly 25,000 students enrolled. It has campuses in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach.
“We are pleased and proud to partner with Christopher Newport in providing access and opportunity for our students and, together, building a better community,” TCC President Marcia Conston said in the release.
