A man was killed and a female was seriously injured when their vehicle was struck by a man who was allegedly driving drunk on Shore Drive early Sunday morning.

Virginia Beach police responded to the 2400 block of Shore Drive near First Landing Beach following a report of a two-vehicle wreck at 2:30 a.m. One of the drivers, 48-year-old Benjamin Alvarado Jr. of Virginia Beach, died at the scene. His female passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said. Her identity, including her age, has not been released.

Police arrested and charged the other driver, 22-year-old Samuel Randolph, with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, his first offense. More charges against Randolph are anticipated, according to a news release.
