The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney has signed off on DUI manslaughter and maiming charges for a man accused of driving drunk on Shore Drive early Sunday morning.
Virginia Beach police responded to the 2400 block of Shore Drive near First Landing Beach following a report of a two-vehicle wreck at 2:30 a.m. One of the drivers, 48-year-old Benjamin Alvarado Jr. of Virginia Beach, died at the scene. His female passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Samuel Randolph, 22, was initially charged with just a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, but Virginia Beach police said in a news release that Randolph will now face manslaughter and maiming charges, as well.
