NORFOLK — More than a dozen apartments in Ocean View were damaged after fire officials say a large fire broke out Tuesday night.

Crews were dispatched to the 200 block of W. Ocean View Avenue, next to the Ocean View Beach Park, for reports of the fire around midnight. Crews arrived to find “heavy fire” coming from a two-story apartment building.

The fire had already spread to another complex next door, so fire officials immediately upgraded the incident to a second alarm. Battalion Chief Glen Williams, public information officer for the department, said one person was taken to the hospital for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, and one animal died in the fire. No other injuries have been reported.

A total of 15 units were damaged, according to Williams, displacing nine people.

At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
