A man is dead after police say he was shot in Newport News Monday night.
Officers responded around 10:40 p.m. to the intersection of 31st Street and Roanoke Avenue for a report of shots fired. At the scene, emergency services found 54-year-old Marvin Jackson with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
