Downtown Norfolk Council is once again helping celebrate National Bike Month with several events downtown this month.
Now in its 13th year, the city of Norfolk and the council participate in the national movement at a local level with events, fun freebies and advocacy work.
Events this month include Bike to Work Day on May 17 from 7-9 a.m., featuring eight pit stops for cyclists to visit while mixing up their commute, picking up water, fruit and fun giveaways.
Also on May 17 is the Glow Ride VIII, leaving from The Plot in the Neon District at 8:30 p.m. for a 5-mile route. Participants are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark clothing, bike gear, gloves or shoes with flashing lights and glow sticks.
This year, Norfolk was certified a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, honoring the city’s efforts to build better places for people to bike.
