WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
William & Mary women’s basketball coach Erin Dickerson Davis has received a contract extension through 2029.
Davis has guided the Tribe to 12 CAA victories in back-to-back seasons. She is the fastest W&M coach to reach 20 conference wins and 30 career victories in 95 years.
“Her track record of success and her dedication to our student-athletes are outstanding and being able to reward a high-performing coach shows our commitment to the program, our student-athletes, alumni and fans,” W&M athletic director said Brian D. Mann said. “Five more years of Coach E in Green & Gold is great for women’s basketball!”
The Tribe will open the upcoming season on Nov. 4 at Norfolk State.

Four state players in ESPN Top 100
Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson is ranked 89th in ESPN’s Top 100 list of college football players.
Virginia Tech defensive end Antwaun Powell-Ryland, a former Indian River High star, is ranked 63rd and Hokies cornerback Dorian Strong is 88th.
Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter is 71st.
Henderson and Salter are two of only five players from Group of Five schools to make the list.
CNU picked first in NJAC poll
Christopher Newport has been picked first in the New Jersey Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
The Captains are coming off their first NJAC title since joining the conference in 2015, finishing 7-4 last season and advancing to the NCAA playoffs.
Salisbury is second in the poll.
- Randolph-Macon has been picked No. 1 in the ODAC football preseason poll. Washington and Lee is second, followed by Bridgewater.

NSU’s Gilbert makes All-MEAC
Norfolk State outside hitter Gabrielle Gilbert has made the preseason All-MEAC Team.
The sophomore from Indianapolis became the first Spartan to be named MEAC Rookie of the Year and earn an All-MEAC first-team selection last season. She led NSU with 297 kills and added 128 digs and 25 blocks.
NSU was picked fifth in the preseason poll. Howard was No. 1, followed by Coppin State.
Howard junior outside hitter Rya McKinnon was the preseason MEAC Player of the Year for the second straight season.
NSU will open the season at VCU at 2 p.m. Saturday.
- Christopher Newport’s volleyball team has been picked to finish second in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll. Salisbury was No. 1. CNU will visit Old Dominion in an exhibition match at 3 p.m. Friday.

CNU to enshrine six into Hall
Christopher Newport announced a six-member Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Wednesday.
Basketball alumna Lindsey Carney Smith, a two-time Rector of the CNU Board of Visitors, will be enshrined along with five student-athletes: Jeff Dover and Grayson Reid (men’s cross country/track & field), Tony Cruz (men’s lacrosse), Jimmy Grace (men’s soccer) and Victoria Perry (women’s soccer).
- The Old Dominion men’s tennis team announced its fall schedule, which will include at least four events. The Monarchs will open the season Sept. 21 at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- The fifth-ranked Christopher Newport women’s soccer team has been picked No. 1 in the preseason Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference coaches poll. The Captains carry a 67-game unbeaten streak into this season, which begins Aug. 30 at Virginia Wesleyan.
- UVA is ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason women’s poll.
- The UVA field hockey team has been picked first in the ACC preseason coaches poll. Four Cavaliers — goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy, back Jans Croon, midfielder Noa Boterman and midfielder Daniela Mendez-Trendler — also made the preseason All-ACC Team. UVA will open the season Aug. 30 at Penn State.
