A 37-year-old woman was arrested, police said, after shooting her husband and briefly barricading herself in a home in Norfolk on Tuesday.
Police said officers went to a home in the 100 block of Dover Circle, near East Severn Road in the East Belvedere neighborhood following a report of a man being shot. Officers found a 37-year-old man with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to a news release.
The victim was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
The alleged shooter, Alanna K. Chace, was still in the home while officers were on the scene resulting in a “barricade situation,” police said, and Norfolk police’s Hostage/Crisis Negotiation and Special Operations Teams were called in for backup.
A police spokesperson clarified that the victim was never considered a “hostage.” The victim was able to get help and call police, the spokesperson said.
Chace was arrested peacefully “a short time” after the negotiators arrived, according to a news release, though she was suffering from self-inflicted injuries. Police did not describe the nature of the self-inflicted injuries nor how severe they were. She was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
A police spokesperson confirmed the victim was Chace’s husband. No further details have been made available.
Chase is charged with malicious wounding, domestic assault and use of a firearm. She will be taken to Norfolk City Jail when she is released from the hospital.
