A Newport News man was taken into custody and charged in connection to the shooting death of his uncle early Sunday morning.
Around 4:38 a.m., police were called to the 900 block of Forest Lake Court after a report of an argument and shots heard inside a home, according to a news release. When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Wayne McMillan, of Newport News, inside a home with a gunshot injury. He was taken to a local hospital, but he later died of his wound.
At the scene, police took 31-year-old Cintel Kelley, McMillan’s nephew, into custody. Police said Monday that Kelley has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by felon, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm.
