UPDATED:

An inmate housed at the Norfolk City Jail died Saturday after what jail officials called a medical emergency.

According to a release from the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Saleia M. Gregory had been booked into the jail in June. Medical personnel attended to Gregory during the emergency, and she was taken to the hospital, where she later died. The Norfolk Police Department will investigate, and the sheriff’s office has reported Gregory’s death to the Virginia Department of Corrections for review.

No other details were released. The sheriff’s office said her cause of death is under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. No foul play is suspected, the sheriff’s office reported.
