Cava, a Mediterranean fast food chain, is opening a Virginia Beach location on Friday.

To celebrate, it’s hosting a Community Day Event the day before.

On Thursday, customers can get a free lunch or dinner (one bowl or pita per person) at the Lynnhaven neighborhood restaurant, 2808 Sabre Street — the former Pop’s Diner location. They can also make a credit card donation to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Shore. Cava will match up to $1,000.

Since 2019, the company’s Community Day program has donated more than $500,000 to more than 60 nonprofits, many of which focus on improving food security, according to a news release.

Registration for the free meals is required. Time slots are 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. only. Details and tickets, bit.ly/CAVAVB.
