Steve Erickson OBITUARY

Steve Erickson, 64, passed surrounded by family on Sept. 2. He was an active community member, respected engineer, talented local musician, and beloved husband, father, grandaddy, son, brother, and friend.

Born on Oct. 16, 1959 to Mary Margaret Carter Wynn and William Ferry, Steve was a Portsmouth boy through and through. He spent 28 years in Western Branch before returning to live by the water.

Steve dedicated 35 years of civil service to Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager. Following retirement, he remained involved in the ship repair community. He fostered camaraderie and leadership as a mentor, encouraging success for all.

Outside of the shipyard, Steve could be found with a fishing rod, guitar, or Bud Heavy in hand. He was generous, fun-loving, and eager to fix things.

Steve is survived by his wife of 41 years, Liz; his three girls, Lauren (Marco), Christine (Sky), and Ali (Kyle); five grandchildren, Bella, Bailey, Felix, Parker, Ruby; his faithful pet companion Jolene; and extended family, lifelong friends, and neighbors. Steve never met a stranger.

A celebration of life will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth River Project or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
