Philip Alexander Xefteris OBITUARY

Philip Alexander Xefteris passed into eternal life on September 5th, 2024. He was a genuine, pure soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. He had a unique and special way about him, was always frank and often brilliant.

Philip was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in a busy military family. He graduated from Bayside High School in 1976, the equipment manager for the State Champion Baseball team that year. He went on to attend The Devereaux School in Victoria, Texas. He worked in Special Services at Little Creek Amphibious Base as a statistician for the Sports Division. He was a City of Virginia Beach Volunteer at the Central Library, barcoding Law books. He later received a 10 year service award from the American Red Cross, having served at JEB Little Creek’s Boone Clinic.

Philip loved sports, especially his Baltimore Orioles, and he had a knack for picking winners. He went to most Redskin home games and saw two of their Superbowls. He was a TideWatcher and could also be found in the ODU Fieldhouse benches watching women’s basketball. He was one of the “lucky charms” rooting Brandon Adair and the VWU men’s basketball team to a National Championship. He and Father (Best Buddy) and Mother could be found at most local sporting events. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He loved working out at Anytime Fitness with his friends and trainers, and then eating lunch with his friends at The Big Grill. Philip was a faithful member of the JEB Little Creek Chapel for many years, later of St Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.

He is survived by his beloved 100 year old mother, Katherine Xefteris; his loving and devoted older brother, Capt Constantine (Pixie) Xefteris, USN, Ret; his doting sister, Diane (Larry) French; his older sister Maria (Robert) Jackson; his nephews Trey French, SMSgt Charles (Christine) French, USAF; his nieces Katherine (Kyle) Jacocks, Melissa (Rock) Thomas, Desiree (Col Russell USA) Henry, Kelly Chaparro; family Rock, Dominick, Russell, Robert, Ryan, Cassidy, Anthony, Thad, Ethan and Emma; and cousins Lou, Paul, Julia and Patty. He is also survived by his devoted caregiver and companion of 8 years that he loved so much, Ms Donna Bulleit. We are so grateful for those who helped us give him his best life, at Marian Manor, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Key, and Westminster Hospice. We will all miss Philip more than we can say.

The family will hold a Wake at Altmeyer Funeral Home on Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach on Thursday, September 12th.from 4:00PM – 6:00PM. The following day, Friday September 13th, a Catholic Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St Gregory the Great Church in Virginia Beach beginning at 11:45AM. The reception following the Mass will be held in the Terrace Room at Marian Manor, behind the church. All are welcome.

Philip will be interred with his father, Capt Zefter C Xefteris, USN, at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.

Please feel free to leave a memorial message on the Altmeyerfh.com website. Philip would’ve liked that.
